ANJA CLIFT

Anja Clift (b.1987) is a Slovenian flautist specialising in contemporary repertoire. She has been the recipient of many awards and distinctions, including a gold and silver medal at the TEMSIG competition (2004 & 2010 respectively), the Academic Prešeren Award for her outstanding interpretation of Carl Nielsen’s Concerto for flute and orchestra (2012), and two First prizes in the ISA-Sommerakademie Competition for Interpretation of Contemporary Music (2011, 2012).


She has obtained diplomas from the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Matej Grahek, and the Ljubljana Academy of Music, where she studied with Karolina Šantl Zupanand, and has undertaken further studies at the Graz University of Arts with Dieter Flury. Wishing to gain a deeper understanding of music theory & history, she studied musicology at the Faculty of arts, Ljubljana in parallel to her studies in performance. Anja is currently undertaking a Master of Specialised Performance in Contemporary music at Hochschule für Musik Basel with Mike Svoboda, Marcus Weiss and Jürg Henneberger.


She has participated in numerous masterclasses and Summer festivals such as Impuls Academy, Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Gubbio Summer Festival, where she has worked with flautists Eva Furrer, Vera Fischer, Mario Caroli, Martin Fahlenbock, Michael M. Kofler among others.


She performs regularly in chamber ensembles and as a soloist. She is a member of a Slovenian Ensemble Neofonía and Ensemble neuverBand, and joined the ICMS Basel faculty in 2013.
