SOPHIE KAELIN
Sophie Kaelin believes that music is for everyone and can be a powerful tool for promoting citizenship, social inclusion, and a sense of belonging. Her teaching philosophy centers on the idea that music doesn’t always have to be about pursuing a career or competing at a high level. Instead, it can be an enjoyable and enriching way to challenge oneself, engage with others, and grow personally. She is dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive environment where students can explore their musical potential in a supportive, non-competitive setting.
Sophie works at the Swiss International School as a teaching assistant in the primary section and as a general music teacher for middle school-aged students. She grew up in New Jersey (USA) in a family of fine artists. Sophie earned a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and has since been dedicated to fostering a love for music in students of all ages. Outside of her work, Sophie enjoys hiking, knitting, and gardening, and is currently based in Basel, where she finds inspiration in both nature and community.
Sophie teaches both cello and Instrument Carousel at ICMS. She is excited to work with students of all ages and levels, helping them to discover the joys of music while developing their skills and confidence.
